About the Comprehensive Planning Process

Comprehensive planning is a process to determine community goals and aspirations for a city. It presents a holistic vision for the future, with long-range goals and objectives, and an implementation framework to achieve success. The resulting comprehensive plan serves as a blueprint for future government action, guiding public policies on land use, housing, open space, and more.

A traditional comprehensive plan is focused on land use, transportation/mobility, and community facilities. While this comprehensive plan will address those issues, we also anticipate it will focus on a broader range of topics, such as housing affordability, workforce development, small business, and neighborhood vitality.

The planning team also realizes that there is already a lot happening in Ferguson—community initiatives, other planning efforts, and new development. This comprehensive plan will clarify, align, and fill gaps between these efforts in and around Ferguson. And perhaps most importantly, this plan will lay out a vision for how the Ferguson community can drive the change it wants to see.
